Mastoid & Ear Problems
The Mastoid is the bone that surrounds the 3 structures of the ear; the outer ear canal, the middle ear and the inner ear.
Mastoid infections are inflammation of the bone around the ear
It can be acute or chronic.
Your hearing and balance may be affected

Acute:
The bone becomes infected from a cold or sinus infections.
The ear drum may rupture to allow pus to drain from the mastoid spaces.
Chronic:
The Mastoid bone is infected over a period of months and will not respond to medication.

Diagnosis:
Ear examination
Mastoid x-rays or CT of the Mastoid bone

Treatment:
Antibiotics
Decongestions
Pain medications
For chronic Mastoiditis, surgery may be indicated
