Ear & Hearing Problems
Ear Problems.

The ear is a wonderful organ with many functions. It is divided into 3 parts, the outer ear that includes the auricle, ear canal and ear drum. The middle ear is a chamber that houses the 3 bones, namely the hammer, anvil and stirrup. The inner ear is divided into two parts, the organ of hearing and the organ of balance

Ear infections are predominantly seen in children. The ear becomes infected following a cold or sinus infection; it may rupture the ear drum and drain fluid or pus out of the ear. Chronic ear infections may lead to mastoiditis which is a chronic infection of the bones around the ear

Hearing loss can result from repeated ear infections, virus or an aging of the hearing nerve as we get older. Ringing or tinnitus usually is a result of a high frequency hearing loss.

More than 2 million people visit their doctors each year complaining of dizziness or vertigo. These different symptoms represent balance problems. Dizziness is best described as lightheaded, unsteady or giddy. This feeling of imbalance or disequilibrium without a sensation of turning or the room spinning is seldom due to an inner ear problem. Vertigo comes from the Latin verb “to turn”; patients describe it as turning and being nauseous.

In many cases, the diagnosis of balance problems can be made by a complete ear, nose and throat examination, and diagnostic test when necessary

Hearing test and pressure test are available at our facility. Removal of impacted wax can be done by washing, suction or microscope removal.
